At CRS Fetal Medicine is focused on assessing baby well-being and tracking fetal anomalies.
In the routine of prenatal ultrasound examinations, CRS offers several examinations according to the period of gestation.
First trimester of pregnancy
1. Transvaginal ultrasonography to evaluate the initial gestation, observing the viability of the fetus. It is the most accurate phase for the pregnancy dating.
2. Morphological examination I Quarter aims to track genetic diseases such as Down’s syndrome and evaluate the initial anatomy.
If it is performed in the period from 11 weeks and 3 days to 14 weeks (best time for evaluation: 12 weeks)
Second trimester of pregnancy
1. Morphological examination II Quarter, conducted between the 20th and 24th week. Through this examination, 85% of fetal malformations can be identified (the best time to perform: between the 22nd and 24th weeks).
2. Evaluation of the neck via transvaginal, which can be performed along with the morphological examination. This is the best test to identify patients at risk of preterm birth.
Third trimester of pregnancy
1. Obstetric ultrasonography, aims to evaluate the growth of the fetus. It can be performed throughout pregnancy.
2. Doppler velocimetry, procedure indicated in gestations of risk or recommended from the diagnosis of the ultrasound or suggested by the obstetrician from the first quarter. It analyzes the vitality of the fetus through the blood flow of the placenta, uterus and vessels of the fetus. From the second trimester, the maternal-fetal hemodynamic profile assesses the development of pregnancy, the well-being of the fetus and can estimate maternal-fetal risks.
3. Biophysical-fetal profile, dynamic method of fetal evaluation that associates ultrasound with cardiotography. It can be performed from the 25th week and evaluates five fetal parameters:
1. tonus;
2. movement;
3. respiratory movement;
4. amniotic fluid index;
5. Heart rate reactivity.
