What is a magnetic resonance?
The Magnetic Resonance is a relatively new exam which allows the radiologist to examine and diagnose diseases in different parts of the human body. It uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves that allow images to be formed. As it doesn´t use radiation (X-rays ), the exam is rather simple and causes no colateral effects or any damage to your health.
What happens before the exam?
You will receive detailed information about what the exam is, what we are trying to find with it and an estimated time for the duration of the exam. Except for newly-born babies, uncooperative patients or even patients with claustrofobia (aversion to places with little room) who will perhaps need some kind of de sedation or anesthetic, there is no special preparation for this exam.
Important Information
For your complete security, some information is necessary::

The machine emits different sounds while the images are being made. Try to remain static during this period. Ear plugs may be used if necessary. The average time is about 30-45 minutes, however some more complex exams can take more time. The technician or the doctor will keep you informed about the quality of the exam and the time that remains for it to finish.

The result will be supplied as soon as possible so that you can hand it to your doctor.
